STONE WITH SOUL
TRAVERTINE, MARBLE & LIMESTONE
Natural stone creates contrast, warmth texture and a connection to natur - a timeless trend bringing lasting elegance you living space.
“Without material there is no soul. Positioning the material at the center of the project is an intellectual act and celebrating unusual stones and natural finishes is aligned with our practice and GUBI’s cerebral and contemporary take on the traditional,’ say Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi, GamFratesi on Epic Coffee Table.”
BOLD COLORS AND STRIKING PATTERNS
After many years of a cool, minimalist approach to interiors, the inclusion of richly textured, naturally patterned materials introduces a new layer of depth. Natural stones, draw the eye with their intricate patterns created by time, something that cannot be replicated in processed materials.
CURATING MATERIALS
When curating materials, we see a trend towards natural materials that embrace their authenticity and offer a timeless resilience.
PLAYS OF LIGHT
Natural stone is widely appreciated for its wonderful aesthetic but when it comes to making the most of its innate beauty lighting is key. Whether it’s the natural daylight that filters in through windows or artfully positioned lighting pieces, the rays bring out the colours of stone, adding depth to its texture and dramatically transforming the environment so that it appears dynamic and alive.
TRAVERTINE
The exquisite details in the stone come from the stone’s organic formation influenced by hot springs and limestone caves over thousands of years. Gas and water escape from the surface during its formation, giving travertine intricate patterns, textures, and distinctive characteristics. With its captivating veining, lively texture, and distinctive patina that evolves with every use, travertine brings a touch of timeless elegance to any space.
LIMESTONE
Veining variations in limestone are caused by the presence of different minerals, sediments, or fossils, which create distinctive patterns or lines within the stone. These veins can range from subtle and fine lines to more pronounced and intricate patterns, adding depth and character to the appearance of limestone. Fossils, such as shells, corals, or other marine organisms that were present during its formation, can also create distinct textures and patterns, contributing to limestone's visual diversity.
MARBLE
Marble is a limestone that through pressure and heat has been recrystallized. During this process, various minerals enter the stone which leads to a variety of colors, patterns, and veining of the stone. All stones have veining and crystallizations that can appear to be cracks or pits but are natural properties of the marble.
