AT HOME WITH

PIETER PEULEN

Belgian photographer and creative soul Pieter Peulen, with a background in interior and furniture design, welcomed us into his serene, light-filled home in Zonhoven where vintage treasures meet modernist forms.

I live and work in a concrete house, a place that’s constantly evolving. I’m always searching for the perfect configuration, which means my interior changes often. Tactility plays a big role for me: the raw, pure concrete forms the base, but I like to combine it with vintage pieces that carry a history.

I live and work in a concrete house, a place that’s constantly evolving. I’m always searching for the perfect configuration, which means my interior changes often. Tactility plays a big role for me: the raw, pure concrete forms the base, but I like to combine it with vintage pieces that carry a history.

Blending the past with contemporary design creates a layered warmth that feels personal. I live in calmness, surrounded by the serenity of my home and a beautiful garden where nature inspires and grounds me.

Home is the heart of everything for me. It’s not just where I live, but also where I work, create, and enjoy life. Over the years, my relationship with home has deepened: it has become a space that nurtures me, inspires me, and fully reflects who I am.

Balancing architecture and comfort

I see the Pierre Paulin’s F300 as a true design classic: pure in its sculptural form yet warm and inviting. It has a softness that makes you want to sink into it. My living space is more rectangular in shape, so I like introducing rounded forms to create contrast. The F300 brings those curves into the room, balancing the strict architecture with a sense of comfort and visual flow.

For me, it’s essential how an object interacts with the person using it. Comfort is key: a design should invite, support, and feel pleasant in daily use. What I appreciate in Paulin’s work is how his forms radiate softness and accessibility. The rounded shapes create warmth and friendliness, making you feel welcome. It’s not just about aesthetics, but about creating an experience that enhances daily life - a philosophy I share with him.

My first encounter with Pierre Paulin was in my parents’ home, where they had one of his chairs. I remember the rounded shapes making it so tactile. As a child, I would sit in it with a book, and while reading, I’d constantly run my hands over its smooth curves. It wasn’t just comfortable - it was a sensory experience. That combination of form and feeling has stayed with me ever since.

Natural light brings everything to life and can transform a space entirely. And simplicity - or rather, purity - ensures that the space breathes without unnecessary distractions.

Living with the Seasons

Spring and summer light feel completely different from autumn or winter, making you experience the house anew. Our large windows connect us to the garden, so we live closely with nature - vibrant in summer with flowers, calm in winter with birds searching for food. I also embrace slow living: taking each day to enjoy the space, notice the details, and be present.
