Visaul artist

EVREN TEKINOKTAY

To Danish/Turkish visual artist Evren Tekinoktay home is a shelter from the storms, a shield against a crazy, busy, sometimes brutal world. The ambience that rules her personal terrain is warm and welcoming.

As an artist, her work has its origins in collage and shares a feminine handmade aesthetics across mediums. In many ways, this is reflected in her Copenhagen home. The two-bedroom apartment is a display of an eclectic and kaleidoscopic sense of style with a particular love for the virtuosic details of design.

SHIMON OVADIA

Shimon Ovadia sees the world through a design lens. He was born in Jerusalem and moved to Brooklyn, NYC, with his family at the age of four. Growing up, Shimon often helped his father who owned a children’s apparel company, and his childhood, no doubt, shaped his outlook and choice of career.

Today Shimon runs Ovadia Bros, an interior and fashion design studio in SoHo, with his twin brother Ariel. As a fashion and interior designer gravitates towards an aesthetic of understated luxury. He describes the style of his home — a sophisticated, self-renovated 1930s townhouse — as minimalist opulence.

SOCIAL HABITATS

MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME

PASSALACQUA

The stunning villa on the shores of Lake Como was originally built in the 18th century for count Andrea Lucini-Passalacqua for the pleasures of love, food, friendship & the fine Italian art of dolce far niente — doing nothing & enjoying it.

Turned into a five star luxury resort after a comprehensive restoration, the new owners, the De Santis family, have recently reopened the doors with the ambition to carry on the historic purpose of the place.

AAMANNS GENBO

Created by Aamann’s long-standing interiors collaborator, Copenhagen design studio All That Matters, the new space takes inspiration from the location’s mix of old and new architecture.

The colors and materials of the old Carlsberg brewery site – raw steel, exposed brick, and accents of red and green. The overall style is an eclectic but balanced blend of old and new – industrial tradition and playful innovation – and the furniture selection has a key part to play.

450 WARREN STREET

In the heart of Brooklyn, at the threshold between the up-and-coming ex-industrial neighborhood of Gowanus and the leafy residential hub of Boerum Hill, something new is taking shape. Here, the design-driven development firm Tankhouse is unfolding its vision for urban housing in the area.

Crucial to the success of 450 Warren Street is the inclusion of extensive outside space including covered open-air walkways and lushly planted courtyards, offering residents opportunities to relax, socialize, and even work outdoors whenever they wish.

Santa Monica

PROPER HOTEL

Fuse a 1920s Spanish colonial revival style building with a curvilinear extension and have design maven Kelly Wearstler layer the space. A beachside haven with a sophisticated sensibility is the result.

An eclectic mise-en-scène of select vintage and contemporary pieces in palettes that allude to the coastal setting makes a social habitat that calls for lingering and embodies California easy living.

With its natural materiality & robust composition, the Daumiller Armchair radiates strength and adds to the overall feeling of being in a private home.

DESDE 19911

Desde 1911 combines a refined, ocean-inspired menu with an elegantly simple, Nordic-influenced interior that celebrates natural materials and textures.

Marcel Gascoin’s C-Chair by GUBI was chosen by interior design team, Laura Muñoz and Cecilia Moretti, for Desde 1911’s Privado 1911 dining area. With its long and generous table, this bright, generous but intimate dining space allows guests to enjoy tailored gastronomic experiences, separated from the restaurant’s atrium by glazed walls.
