The G-10 Floor Lamp, a creation of Greta M. Grossman dating back to 1950, stands as a testament to her ingenuity in design, yet remains one of her lesser-known masterpieces. This lamp is immediately recognizable by its unique lampshade that bathes any room in a warm, welcoming light. It also boasts a textured surface, enhanced by the striking contrast of polished brass details, all of which come together to define its singular aesthetic.
The lamp exudes a sophisticated and luxurious charm, seamlessly blending with an industrial feel, marking it as a piece that transcends time with its classic yet modern appeal. The G-10 lamp, like many of Grossman's creations, was produced in both America and her homeland, Sweden. This particular design draws heavily from the Swedish version. It was the tenth product Grossman designed for the Swedish manufacturer Bergboms, hence the designation G-10.
GRETA M. GROSSMAN
Greta M. Grossman (1906–1999) was an innovator in the male-dominated worlds of mid-century industrial and interior design and architecture, gaining international recognition for her work.
She was born and educated in Sweden, setting up Studio – her first combined store and workshop – in Stockholm the same year she married musician Billy Grossman. With the onset of the Second World War, the pair emigrated to California where she worked as an architect. She was among the first to bring the Scandinavian modern aesthetic to southern California’s burgeoning modernist scene.
