GUBI ON DESIGN

Follow us as we take a deep dive into the world of design and its creators.

GOING ALFRESCO IN BROOKLYN

In the heart of Brooklyn, at the threshold between the up-and-coming ex-industrial neighborhood of Gowanus and the leafy residential hub of Boerum Hill, something new is taking shape. Here, the design-driven development firm Tankhouse is unfolding its vision for urban housing in the area.

MAKING OF AN ICON

The Beetle Chair’s unique success as a design is rooted in its distinctive fusion of artisanal craftsmanship and technologically advanced production techniques. Like the insect that inspired it, the chair combines an almost mechanical exactitude of form with an organic

FACE TO FACE

GUBI is devoting this fall to the time we spend together in our homes. There is something very precious about sharing the same space – something that cannot be replicated at a distance. When we are eye to eye in each other’s presence – together, intimate, and unfiltered – we can truly connect.

SHINE LIKE THE SEVENTIES

In the 1970s, we went crazy for color. Bold shades, earthy tones, playful accents, gleaming neutrals – the full spectrum from subtle to striking. Now, we are in the midst of a retro renaissance, as the tones and textures of the decade’s distinctive aesthetic are en vogue all over again.

A NORDIC TOUCH

One of the most talked-about restaurants to open in the Spanish capital, Desde 1911 is a gastronomic homage to Madrid’s history as one of the great port cities – and a tribute to the family fishing heritage of its owners María Juliana Azpíroz and Evaristo García. A key element of the space is Marcel Gascoin’s C-Chair.

FASHION IN FURNITURE

Using hand-woven textiles, Camella Ehlke has brought a fresh expression to two GUBI Grace Chairs, designed by Tove Kindt-Larsen in 1936. The collaboration offers a roadmap for artfully and responsibly extending the longevity of great design, and reflects the values of creativity, courage and curiosity at the heart of GUBI.
