NINE CHAPEL
GUBI ENRICHES TANKHOUSE’S NEW VISION FOR CITY LIVING
In the heart of Downtown Brooklyn, Nine Chapel is the new landmark by design-driven developer Tankhouse and award-winning architecture firm SO-IL, towering 14 stories above the streetscape and encompassing 27 contemporary apartments. Featuring furniture and lighting curated by GUBI, it represents the perfect marriage of design and architecture.
IN BETWEEN WORLDS
Nine Chapel welcomes residents home through covered, open-air terraces reminiscent of front porches. Wrapped in an undulating, shimmering façade of perforated metal, the terraces embody Nine Chapel’s embrace of outdoor space, with covered and uncovered loggias creating a beautiful interplay of space and light.
“At the core of Nine Chapel is a profound interest in creating thoughtful, useful living spaces that blur the line between indoors and out. Through innovative, diverse outdoor spaces, we’ve created not only beautiful, high-design homes with incredible views, but also a sense of community.”
- Sam Alison-Mayne and Sebastian Mendez, Founders, Tankhouse
INTERIORS ENRICHED BY GUBI
Nine Chapel’s interiors feature wide-plank white oak floors, ceiling heights starting at nine feet, and oversized picture windows that bathe the homes in natural light and look out over the Brooklyn cityscape. Supporting Tankhouse’s mission to rethink urban living, GUBI has curated Nine Chapel’s model residence and shared areas with a curated selection of furniture and lighting from its collection of iconic modern design.
EMBRACING NATURE
A restorative connection to nature and the outdoors is palpable in the furniture’s material palette. GUBI has complemented the custom-made white oak butcher’s block kitchen island of the model residence with timber accents, showcasing pieces such as the Sejour Lounge Chair by GamFratesi, Mathieu Matégot’s F Chair, and the iconic Timberline Floor Lamp by Mads Caprani.
A DIALOGUE BETWEEN ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN
“The partnership between GUBI and Tankhouse is rooted in a shared desire to connect with the outdoors and explore how interiors and exteriors meet and merge. GUBI’s designs are made for longevity; our furniture is durable and aesthetically timeless enough to last a lifetime, which supports Tankhouse’s sustainability initiatives.”
- Marie Kristine Schmidt, Chief Brand Officer, GUBI
BALANCE AND HARMONY
GUBI’s furniture selection embraces depth, texture, and contrast to create beautiful, richly layered spaces both indoors and out. The curving, cloud-like softness of Pierre Paulin’s Pacha Sofas and Lounge Chairs stands in geometric and textural juxtaposition to the angular, monumental expression of GamFratesi’s Epic Tables. Outside, the perforated metal shades of Mathieu Matégot’s Satellite Floor Lamp provide a perfect visual echo of 9 Chapel’s distinctive folded-metal cladding.
CRAFTED TO LAST
The partnership between GUBI and Tankhouse is rooted in a shared love of innovative design, considered craftsmanship, and a desire to connect with nature and explore the spaces where indoor and outdoor meet and merge.
In line with Tankhouse’s focus on longevity, GUBI pieces are designed to be robust, resilient, timeless, and trend-free, offering quality, comfort, and beauty that lasts for decades.
