EPICURUS

In downtown Copenhagen, a new culinary and musical powerhouse has emerged by a team with six Michelin stars to their name. The interiors were conceived by AD100 studio GamFratesi around the name “Epicurus”, evoking the joy of music, food, and conviviality that characterized ancient Greek culture.

Guests are welcomed into the dedicated entrance where a dramatic travertine console sets the tone. From here, Epicurus unfolds in two connected yet distinct experiences: a restaurant above and a jazz club below.

THE JAZZ CLUB

Downstairs, the jazz club embraces the building’s past as a military gymnasium for the Queen’s guards. Dark, smoked oak wood paneling evokes both structure and softness, while three-meter-tall windows and six-meter ceilings preserve the vertical grandeur of the space.

“A key goal of the project was to create a cohesive narrative without repetition. Materials and finishes offer continuity, but each space has a distinct mood.”

Next to the jazz stage, a sculptural bar lined with Beetle Bar Chairs offers a striking focal point where refined mixology meets architectural artistry. The surrounding walls feature modern reinterpretations of classical Greek iconography with abstract scenes of music and dance - carved as fine inlays in wood, which recall the aesthetics of Nordic craftsmanship

THE RESTAURANT

In contrast to the jazz club, the restaurant above retains and restores original elements. Existing woodwork has been painted in a warm, rich tone that complements the dark wood of the new additions. On a wall where no paneling remained, natural materials were used to reconstruct the rhythm of the room.

Epicurus’ interior design invites guests on a journey through time and place - bridging ancient joy and modern elegance, in a dialogue between history, music, and Nordic design.
