ADML CIRCLE
A humanistic and exploratory approach to design is the animating energy behind AMDL CIRCLE, the multidisciplinary studio founded in Milan by Michele De Lucchi – one of the most influential figures in the story of late 20th-century Italian design.
The studio’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that design must serve and elevate the human experience – whether through a building, object, system, or environment. With a diverse and ever-growing portfolio spanning architecture, interior design, product design, and graphics, AMDL CIRCLE is anchored in the spirit of exploration and experimentation that has defined its founder’s career from the very beginning.
SOCIETAL IMPROVEMENT
At the core of AMDL CIRCLE is a belief in the transformative power of design as a tool for societal improvement. The studio operates at the intersection of craftsmanship, technology, nature, and industry, using design and architecture as means to improve daily life and address real-world challenges.
DESIGN WITHOUT
BORDERS
The studio takes a holistic approach, dissolving the traditional boundaries between disciplines, and freely allowing projects to influence one another. A structural detail in a building might inspire the lines of a chair, the rhythm of a façade might inform a fabric pattern, and a color palette developed for an interior could find new life in a graphic identity. The seamless flow of ideas leads to work that is both unified and deeply layered.
AMDL CIRCLE’s remit is international in scope, including collaborations with global corporations, cultural institutions, and government bodies. Landmark projects include the redevelopment of Deutsche Bank’s offices, railway stations for Deutsche Bundesbahn, the UniCredit Pavilion in Milan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Georgia, the Pavilion Zero at Expo Milano, and Novartis Pavillon in Basel.
Through its research in interiors and office design, AMDL CIRCLE has spearheaded technical and aesthetic innovations in the 21st-century workspace. In product design, the studio has worked with leading European furniture and lighting brands, including Artemide, Cassina, Alessi, Poltrona Frau, and Hermès. The studio’s graphic design work spans every sector, from banking to biotech.
ALWAYS MOVING
FORWARDS
Never confined to a fixed style or formal language, AMDL CIRCLE embraces a process of continuous reinvention. For the studio, innovation is not a momentary act but an ongoing necessity – the result of the instinctive human drive to imagine, evolve, and explore. Each project offers a new opportunity to grow, to learn from materials and methods, and to advance design through experimentation. At the heart of it all is the human being – both as the inspiration for, and the ultimate beneficiary of, the studio’s work.
This philosophy of evolving through exploration is a defining factor in AMDL CIRCLE’s collaboration with GUBI. Challenged to reinvent the classic 19th-century bistro chair, the studio ventured into new territory: rattan, a material that they had never yet worked with in four decades of practice. The result, the Bistra Collection, is a refined, contemporary take on the traditional typology – expressing an elegance rooted in nature, an aesthetic born of simplicity, and a design logic that mirrors the branching forms of the plant world. With this collection, AMDL CIRCLE demonstrates once again that great design should never stand still.
