COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK SS23 RECAP

Look 9: obello lamp and dress in chevron chenille 034 from the gubi upholstery collection

For Copenhagen Fashion Week SS23, GUBI & (di)vision got together to create a fashion-meets-furniture catwalk collaboration inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 Vietnam war epic, Apocalypse Now. Presented in a stunning forested pocket set against the post-industrial landscape of Refshaleøen, with Pacha Collection by Pierre Paulin all over, the show won the hearts of the international press and has been nominated for Elle Awards’ Fashion Event of the Year 2021/2022.

"When working with upcycling, our mindset is that we have to work with what is already there, and for our SS23 collection, we had this thought: What if there actually wasn’t anything left, what would we then work with? It is an almost apocalyptic mindset, but we also want the runway to be a break from all the noise, and from all the doomsday thoughts that a lot of people have."

"Everything that we work with has been discarded at some point - maybe it was old, or there was a mistake in the fabric - for some reason, it was not selected. Then we find it and work with it and bring it back. It is a process of reclaiming something that otherwise would not have been used and giving it a new purpose."
