TO MADRID´S DESDE 1911
One of the most talked-about restaurants to open in the Spanish capital, Desde 1911 is a gastronomic homage to Madrid’s history as one of the great port cities – and a tribute to the family fishing heritage of its owners María Juliana Azpíroz and Evaristo García. A key element of the space is Marcel Gascoin’s C-Chair.
CELEBRATING NATURAL MATERIALS AND TEXTURES
Desde 1911 combines a refined, ocean-inspired menu with an elegantly simple, Nordic-influenced interior that celebrates natural materials and textures.
Marcel Gascoin’s C-Chair by GUBI was chosen by interior design team, Laura Muñoz and Cecilia Moretti, for Desde 1911’s Privado 1911 dining area. With its long and generous table, this bright, generous but intimate dining space allows guests to enjoy tailored gastronomic experiences, separated from the restaurant’s atrium by glazed walls.
UTILITY AND COMFORT
As a designer, Gascoin was the perfect match for Desde 1911. Born into a family of mariners, he grew up with a fascination with the clever and compact design demanded by seafaring vessels, so it’s only appropriate that one of the designs to emerge from this heritage should find its home here.
Thanks to its perfect balance of utility and comfort, and the appealing materiality of its sturdy wooden structure, the C-Chair has become one of Gascoin’s most admired furniture designs. For Desde 1911, it proved the ideal choice – complementing the unfussy natural interiors of the restaurant with a walnut frame and French cane seat; and, due to its slender footprint, allowing more diners to fit comfortably and convivially around the table.

In April 2022, Tapas Magazine announced the winner of its inaugural ‘Best New Restaurant’ award, naming the Madrid fish and seafood specialist Desde 1911 the most exciting new opening of the year – a tribute to its exceptional cuisine, captivating atmosphere, and inspiring interiors.
