Lotus Lamp

Reintroduced by GUBI after more than 50 years out of production, Carlo Nason’s iconic Lotus Table Lamp fuses the peak of Murano glassmaking with a timeless artistic vision. Designed in 1969, it captures Nason’s fascination with form, light, and experimentation, as well as his desire to push the limits of both convention and material possibility. Crafted from four nested layers of mouth-blown glass, the lamp takes its name from its layered flower-like form, which evokes the poetic beauty of the lotus flower. The shade’s individual elements are made using the mouth-blown ‘pulegoso’ glass technique, giving the lamp a varied, semi-opaque texture that enhances depth and light diffusion, ensuring each piece is unique. The multiple layers of glass conceal the bulb from view, creating a soft, ambient glow that brings a sense of calm and depth to a space.
One of a kind murano craftsmanship
As a hand-crafted object, each Lotus Table Lamp is a one-off creation, uniquely imbued with the character of its maker and material, with subtle variations in thickness, curvature, and light diffusion that preserve the natural character of the glass. In Nason’s hands, light becomes a material in itself. The opacity of the glass and the ingenious layering transform the light into a soft, gently diffused glow, contributing to its calm and atmospheric presence.

CARLO NASON
Carlo Nason (1935–2026) was born in Murano into one of its oldest glassmaking families. Over five decades he produced more than 1,000 objects, from lamps and vases to sculptural work, becoming one of the most prolific names in mid-century Italian glass. Created in 1969, the Lotus Table Lamp distills his curiosity for the material and stands as a quiet testament to Murano's craft.
