Tropique In New Fabrics

A 1950s design revived for the 21st century, the Tropique Dining Chair brings Matégot’s vision of ‘la dolce vita’ vividly to life. Embodying the carefree glamor of the Côte d’Azur in the mid-20th century, Tropique combines a clean and simple silhouette with a distinctly decadent aesthetic.

A RAVISHING REFRESH

Now, GUBI gives the collection a ravishing refresh with new sun-kissed colors and summery stripes. Specially developed to evoke the easygoing coastal lifestyle of the Mediterranean summer, new upholstery options give the Tropique Dining Chairs a new and engaging alfresco energy.

TWO NEW COLORWAYS

In addition to the existing solid-color upholstery options in smooth, natural-toned white or beige, GUBI has introduced two new colorways. Evocative of Capri restaurant terraces and clifftop Riviera cafés, the new designs are characterized by wide, nautically inspired stripes in either white and orange, or white and blue. For an added bohemian flourish, all fabrics can be supplied with tasseled fringes.

OUTDOOR OPTIMIZED

The elegant Leslie jacquard fabric was developed exclusively for GUBI, made especially for outdoor use and GreenGuard-certified, comfortably flexible while being durable and sun-resistant – crafted to last through many seasons in the sun. Fixed in placed with a pin mechanism under the armrest, the fabric can for removed, cleaned, and replaced.

SHADES OF SUMMER

One of Mathieu Matégot’s favorite of his own designs – chosen to furnish his own apartment – Tropique embodies the lightness and leisure of outdoor living. The perfect way to furnish the summer, whichever color one chooses.

THE TROPIQUE COLLECTION

Available in either black or white, the frames of the Tropique Dining Chair – and the companion Tropique Dining Table – are formed from slender stainless steel rods, with a characteristic curve at each of the four feet, echoing the arc of the armrests.

MATHIEU MATÉGOT

A versatile, independent, and self-taught Hungarian designer, architect and artist, Mathieu Matégot (1910–2001) first learned about the techniques and potential of sheet metal while working in a mechanical accessories plant as a German prisoner of war. After his liberation, he spent most of his life in his beloved Paris, where he opened his furniture workshop.

TROPIQUE IN NEW FABRICS

The new Leslie fabrics include solid-color fabrics in white and beige, as well as a playful, nautically inspired pattern of wide stripes in either white and orange or white and blue. Leslie is available for the Tropique Dining Chair in black or white, and comes with the option of tasseled fringes.
