The design genius of Paavo Tynell meets
the artistic flair of Henry Moore

ART OF LIGHT

In a new collaboration, GUBI and the boutique Parisian textile house GARRO ÉDITIONS bring together Paavo Tynell and another pioneering figure of the 20th-century: Revered English sculptor and artist Henry Moore. This special edition combines the classically Scandinavian elegance of Tynell's 9602 Floor Lamp with the dynamic energy of Moore’s black-line drawings.

Moore’s bold, fluid lines bring a striking dynamism to the lamp. The interplay of his expressive strokes and the shade’s pleats adds an almost three-dimensional depth, capturing the tension and movement within the artwork. The horses seem poised to leap from the linen surface and into the room, giving a kinetic freshness to Tynell’s refined design.

‘Just as art reflects society, so does great design. Like Henry Moore, Paavo Tynell was drawn to nature, organic forms, and classic materials. Almost a century after its creation, the lamp remains as relevant as ever.’

HARINGEY CIRCUS HORSES BY HENRY MOORE

Henry Moore was fascinated by horses and other livestock, and returned to them as inspiration for studies, sketches, and other artworks throughout his career. Personally selected by GARRO ÉDITIONS founder Héloïse Garro on a visit to the Henry Moore Foundation’s archive, The 9602 special edition is adorned with ‘Haringey Circus Horses’, a spontaneous pen-and-ink drawing created by Henry Moore in 1956 during a trip to the circus with his daughter. The drawing portrays the electric moment when the horses first step out into the ring, full of anticipation.

FROM FINE ART TO FINE FABRICS

Exclusive to GARRO ÉDITIONS, the ‘Haringey Circus Horses’ drawing is printed on 100% linen, woven and printed in France. The fabric is certified by France Terre Textile, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, and the inks are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), assuring materials and production are as traceable, chemical-free, and environmentally responsible as possible. The loose weave of the linen enhances the interplay of light and shadow, emphasizing the intensity of Moore’s lines.

THE 9602 FLOOR LAMP

Designed in 1935 for the Hotel Aulanko in Helsinki, Finland, Tynell’s 9602 Floor Lamp is one of the most celebrated designs he produced during his illustrious career. With its slim rattan-wrapped stem, polished brass base, and conical cap, the lamp exemplifies his commitment to fine craftsmanship and affinity with natural materials. Its distinctive, oversized lampshade gives it an air of refined playfulness, a quality that lends itself beautifully to artistic reinterpretation.

        • PAAVO TYNELL

Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) was born in Helsinki 12 years after the invention of the domestic lightbulb – a time when Finland, like most of northern Europe, was yet to be electrified. Tynell came into the world at precisely the right time to become one of the pioneers of modern lighting; as the electric light spread across the world, so too did Tynell’s design visions. By the time he died in 1973, Tynell was known, fondly, as ‘the man who illuminated Finland’.
