PACHA COLLECTION
BY PIERRE PAULIN
Iconic designer Pierre Paulin’s vision was to create a sensation of ‘sitting on clouds’. A little ahead of its time in 1975, the modular Pacha Collection is finally coming into its own as GUBI reissues this timeless and characterful collection.
“GUBI is delighted to reissue this timeless and characterful collection and play a part in building Paulin the legacy he deserves.”
JACOB GUBI, OWNER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF GUBI
Sitting in the clouds

A swivelling version of the Pacha Lounge Chair provides additional ergonomic flexibility
At the same height, the Ottoman extends the chair’s comfort providing an even more relaxed sitting position, as well as working as an informal seat in its own right.
Pacha was ahead of its time when it was launched in the 1970s and today it is again setting trends. It has attracted a lot of attention from GUBI aficionados, as its low, plump style gains popularity fifty years on.
The first sketches that pierre paulin (1927-2009) drew for what was to become the pacha collection were simple pencil outlines that resembled illustrative clouds. One of those sketches went on to become the pacha lounge chair that he designed for mobilier international (a former french company) in 1975. Reputedly an evolution of his blublub collection for artifort three years previously, the design was the result of extensive research into the notion of comfort.
Individual modules
The Lounge Chair with armrests offers more support for the arms, enables leaning to either side, and embraces the lumbar area. The Pacha Sofas are made by linking up multiple modules with an optional, easily removeable, armrest between each one for extra comfort.
“My father always tried to modernize what already existed – to improve upon it. Unfortunately, the French market simply wasn’t ready for the Pacha Collection in 1975. Thankfully, GUBI is now giving this collection the destiny Pierre Paulin wanted for it.”

PIERRE PAULIN
Legendary French furniture designer Pierre Paulin bestrode the 1960’s and 70’s with his recognizable and innovative style that instantly revolutionized everyday furniture.
A joyful modernist, Paulin’s low-slung pieces provided a new laidback perspective on life and his forward-looking, eclectic and sculptural approach to furniture design instantly caught the mood of the swinging 60’s. The hedonistic, sinuous style of Paulin’s design also attracted the patronage of presidents Georges Pompidou and François Mitterrand, who asked him to redecorate parts of the Elysée Palace in the 1970’s and 80’s.
