PD2 Floor Lamp

6.999 kr.

The PD2 Floor Lamp is designed in 1955 by Barba Corsini to be part of the interior decoration in the attics of one of the world's most prominent buildings, La Pedrera in Barcelona. For the base of the lamp, inspiration came from the vaulted ceilings of La Pedrera, whilst the inspiration for the cylindrical shape and unique, perforated detail of the chimneys influenced the form of the lampshade. The PD2 Floor Lamp has a powerful simple character, which also is an apt description of Corsini's personal design style and fits well into any contemporary home. Barba Corsini was in 1955 assigned to remodel the attics of the prominent Antoni Gaudí landmark La Pedrera. Used as a laundry room and a storage area, Corsini transformed the space into 13 modern apartments. To complete the architectural experience, Corsini specifically designed and decorated the apartments with his own designs, inspired by the characteristic appearance of the building. In 1991, it was decided that the loft space of La Pedrera should be restored according to the original conception of Gaudí. The interior made by Corsini was torn down and most of it thrown away. During the renovation, the architect and gallerist, Joaquim Ruiz Millet, discovered the PD2 Floor Lamp and saved it from being thrown in the trash. Ruiz Millet started to collaborate with Corsini and his designs, and recreated the original pieces, specifically in order to support rescuing his work, make it more known and available for the public.

CORSINI & RUIZ MILLET

Barba Corsini (1916-2008) was a leading functionalist architect who won international praise for his architecture and his design for La Pedrera in Barcelona. Corsini was strongly inspired by the German architect Mies van der Rohe and the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. He also had a great affinity to Finnish architecture, which he believed to be the finest in Europe on account of the powerful simplicity of the designs. 'Powerful simplicity' is perhaps an apt description of Corsini's personal design style, as represented by the Pedrera Collection.
