GT Lounge Chair

Design by Greta M. Grossman

The GT Lounge Chair by Greta M. Grossman combines flowing lines with the clarity and restraint of her Scandinavian design heritage. Designed in 1949, its elongated, curved silhouette is supported by slender legs, a signature feature of Grossman’s furniture, giving the chair a light, graceful expression. Originally showcased at her Rodeo Drive store in Los Angeles and produced in very limited numbers, the design reflects Grossman’s approach to creating furniture that balances comfort with refined proportions. Introduced by GUBI in 2018, the GT Lounge Chair brings a relaxed elegance to contemporary interiors.

Scandinavian roots, California spirit

Born in Sweden and later established in Los Angeles, Greta M. Grossman brought her Scandinavian design sensibility to the emerging modernist culture of California. The GT Lounge Chair reflects this meeting of influences, combining restrained detailing with a relaxed, informal character suited to the interiors she envisioned. The GT Lounge Chair’s low, elongated proportions create an inviting place to recline, while its slim metal frame adds openness beneath the upholstered seat. The contrast between the soft upholstery and the fine supporting structure gives the design a refined, balanced appearance.
