DELIA LACHANCE'S ALGARVE HOME
Delia Lachance, curator of modern living and founder of Westwing, brings her intuitive eye and long-held affection for the Beetle Chair to a tranquil family home in Portugal’s Algarve, shaped by nature and quiet elegance.
Entrepreneur and design visionary Delia Lachance, Founder & Chief Creative Officer and the force behind one of Europe’s most successful e-commerce businesses for interior design, Westwing, traded the fast pace of city life for the natural beauty of southern Portugal.
Together with her husband, Maxime, and their two children, she made a permanent move to the Algarve. Their chosen home, a single-story property that had stood empty for over thirty years, offered more than just an escape: it offered a foundation for an entirely new way of living.
From Ruin to Retreat
The entrance to Delia’s home sets the tone for the entire space. A generous foyer opens towards the courtyard, where a mature olive tree rises against pale limestone walls. Drawn to the house’s calm atmosphere and architectural spirit, Delia and her husband oversaw a full renovation, retaining the original structure while opening it up with expansive glazing, limestone finishes, and an extension that enhances the flow between inside and out. Surrounded by fragrant native plants and sea views, the property reflects the restorative natural environment that continues to inform her work.
“I wanted to create a home that feels calm, grounded, and connected to nature.”
- Delia Lachance

A Mindful Palette Rooted In Nature
The surrounding landscape, with its sandy beiges, deep olive greens, warm terracotta tones, and silver foliage, served as a guiding palette for every design decision. Inside, quiet neutrals meet tactile surfaces, from natural stone to custom oak carpentry. The family’s daily life flows organically from indoors to outdoors, each room forming a calm space grounded in material honesty and emotional warmth.
Delia’s Creative Space
Within the house, a dedicated, light-filled space offers Delia a quiet place to develop ideas and shape Westwing’s creative direction. The walls, shelves, doors, and furniture are handcrafted in oak, creating a unified, natural backdrop. Delia approaches design intuitively, allowing emotion, light, and materials to guide her decisions, and this space gives her calm and focus to do exactly that.

Against the natural palette of oak, the Beetle Chair becomes an anchor point - its moss-toned velvet shifting with the daylight to add depth and contrast.
“What helps me find clarity when making design decisions is always emotion. The best decisions come from stillness, when everything else quiets down.”
- Delia Lachance
With A Personal Touch
Throughout the house, vintage finds sit naturally alongside contemporary design icons, each piece carefully selected by Delia herself. Nothing is purely decorative, as every object carries purpose and intention. Sculptural forms counterbalance clean architectural lines, while velvet, ceramics, and linen introduce softness and intimacy to the generous spaces. Together, they create a calm and curated blend of clarity and understated glamour.
Back to the Beginning - The Beetle Edition
More than a decade ago, when Delia co-founded Westwing at the age of 26, she selected GamFratesi’s Beetle Chair as one of the very first pieces she selected for her Munich office. Its distinctive silhouette invites personal interpretation, a quality that has made it a long-term companion in both her home and professional life.
Now, in an exclusive collaboration with GUBI, Delia has revisited the modern design classic through the Beetle Edition by Delia Lachance, a curated selection that reflects her personal connection to the chair and her evolving design perspective. Still part of her home and workspace today, it continues to carry emotional resonance. Each of the ten editions is informed by her everyday surroundings in Portugal, featuring natural tones, tactile textiles, and subtle contrasts inspired by the landscape.
The orange-toned Beetle echoes the changing hues of the Algarve landscape, shifting from golden amber to deep terracotta throughout the day, and adds comfort and quiet elegance to the terrace
“The Beetle Chair has been part of my design journey from the very beginning, and bringing it back, in a way that reflects my current life feels incredibly meaningful.”
- Delia Lachance
